German Military Plans to Replace Aging Fuchs Transport Vehicles

CAVS Programme to Provide Modern Armoured Vehicles

Germany Joins International Collaboration

Berlin, Germany - The German military (Bundeswehr) has announced its intention to replace its aging Fuchs armoured transport vehicles with a modern system developed through the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme. The CAVS programme, led by Finland and joined by Latvia, Sweden, and Germany, aims to create a common platform for armoured vehicles used across participating countries.

German defence suppliers DSL (a KNDS subsidiary) and FFG have announced that Finnish land systems specialist Patria will be a part of the team to design and produce the new vehicles. Germany's decision to join the CAVS programme follows a statement of intent signed by the German Defence Ministry in June 2022. This collaboration represents a significant step towards the Bundeswehr's goal of enhancing its armoured vehicle capabilities.

Patria, DSL, and FFG will work together to develop and manufacture the new armoured vehicles for the German military. The CAVS programme aims to streamline procurement and maintenance processes, reduce costs, and improve interoperability between partner nations. The new vehicles are expected to feature advanced armour protection, mobility, and enhanced communication systems.
